Publication Abstract

For this study, the National Standardization of Indonesia (BSN) has chosenn a concrete manufacturing company ''PT WIKA Beton'', one of the largest subsidiaries of PT Wiyaya Karya (WIKA)', Indonesia's leading integrated EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) and investment company. In 2008, the latter won the BSN Award in recogition of its commitment to national standards. Employer of over 900 people in eight plants and ten sales offices spread across the country, PT WIKA Beton uses a variety of product standards and test methods in its business operations in addition to a quality management system. The study focuses on four key business functions: R&D/engineering, Inbound logistics, Production, Sales and marketing. The assessment shows that standards enable to reap benefits such as: interoperability of company products, faster and cheaper production; increased customer satisfaction; better communicaton; and enhanced efficiency in quality control and in market research. As many as nine types of impacts on the four business functions have been identified with a total economic benefit estimated at nearly 6% of the company EBIT or 0.43% of total revenue.
