Abstract
SMEs and craft enterprises are an important part of the enterprise sector in Europe. They represent 99 % of all enterprises, around 70 % of all jobs and 50 % of value added enterprises. Recognizing the need to get SMEs more involved in standardization, the European Commmission commissioned and financed a study in which 3 types of stakeholders in 32 European countries were surveyed on the measures actually in place to inform, support and persuade SME and craft enterprises to participate in standardisation. The study concludes with the recommendation of 23 good practices for promoting the participation of craft and SME enterprises in standardization.
