Summary

This case study seeks to understand the beneficial impacts of an ISO 50001 based energy management system (EnMS) on BASF South East Asia Pte Ltd’s Performance Chemicals plant at Jurong Island, Singapore (hereon known as BASF). It utilises the value chain model as prescribed by the ISO 2.0 methodology to understand and measure the impacts of implementing a ISO 50001 based EnMS leading to the translating of operational indicators into energy cost savings.

While industry research literature established benefits from important perspectives such as sustainability and supply chain performance, none of them, however, leveraged the ISO 2.0 methodology for measuring value chain activities to derive economic benefits.
