Abstract

This study explores the role of standardization in supporting the development and commercialization of emerging technologies in the UK.

The study includes:
-a literature review on the role of standardization and standards in supporting the development and commercialization of emerging technologies
-a landscape review of the UK approach to standards development in support of emerging technology
-a review of experiences of standards and standardization amongst innovators in 4 emerging technology areas (graphene, quantum computing, synthetic biology and hydrogen as a fuel)
-recommendations to help improve how standardization in emerging technologies operate in the UK
